Focusing on early pioneers, Los Sembradores: The Roots of Mexican American Boxing in Inland Southern California follows the formation of legendary boxing gyms, including the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Moreno Valley, the Diaz Brothers Training Camp in Indio and the Raincross Boxing Club in Riverside, outlining the story of how mid-century migration to the agricultural landscape of the Inland Empire and construction of Mexican-American barrios set the stage for the emergence of what is today a billion-dollar industry. Departing from humble beginnings, this film traces the development of boxing culture in the Inland Empire over the past fifty years, from small gyms run by farmworkers in Casa Blanca and Coachella to the world- class facilities in Indio and Moreno Valley that train the best boxers on the planet.
